2015 Diplomat Pinot Noir
The Diplomat showcases the house style of Idealist Wines. The focus is on crafting pretty wines that are true to the place and vintage of the harvest. In practice, this means the grapes are picked early in the harvest season when the acid is still strong and the grapes have just reached maturity. No yeast, water, sugar, acid, extracts or enzymes are added to the ferment. After fermentation the wine is pressed and placed into oak barrels for at least two winters. The finished wines have natural clarity and are not filtered.
The 2015 Diplomat is a blend of two blocks of Beacon Hill vineyard. This year’s blend is 100% Pommard clone of Pino Noir. The Diplomat spent 29 months in barrel. Extended barrel aging softened the coarse tannins leaving the wine with a smooth finish. The warm growing season created a robust wine that still finds a way to be elegant.
