2013 Diplomat Pinot Noir
As in past vintages, the 2013 Diplomat is a blend of two vineyard sites: Beacon Hill and Barron Wahl vineyards. The plant parentage of the Diplomat is 100% Pommard clone of Pinot Noir. The fruit was fermented without the help of added yeast. After 20 months in neutral French oak barrels, the Diplomat was blended and bottled.
In every iteration of the Diplomat, it is my goal to have a finished wine that highlights the Idealist philosophy and is a gateway to the other Idealist offerings. In practice I am concerned with two key points. Point one, the Diplomat must have restrained alcohol for the vintage. Point two, the Diplomat must be a bright acid driven wine. In 2013, I am pleased by the visually delicate appearance of this unfiltered wine. I am struck at how strong the flavors have become proving that this Diplomat is anything but fragile. Enjoy. 232 cases produced.
